Maldives and Adventure Travel: The Perfect Combination
Located within the Indian Ocean and approximately 700 kilometers southwest of Sri Lanka, the Maldives have been a popular tourist destination for centuries. The hospitable climate and natural habitat are the hallmarks of this paradise.
Many tourists will not only travel here for a bit of relaxation, but for the adventurous activities that are also offered. For women, there are a host of options to choose from and it’s a very safe place with very little crime. So while your husband, boyfriend, or travel companion soaks up the sun on one of the many pristine beaches, you can have the experience of a lifetime. Let’s take a quick look at a handful of the most adventure activities that this one-of-a-kind chain of islands has to offer.
Into the deep…
These islands boast some of the most unique marine ecosystems in the world. Punctuated by cerulean blue waters, ancient coral reefs, and scintillating displays of wildlife, diving is popular here. If you are unfamiliar with the principles of diving, it doesn’t matter. There are a multitude of courses that can be completed within a few days (such as those offered on Kuramathi Island). You’ll be able to rent diving equipment that’s safe, and due to the warmth of the water, you’ll normally require nothing more than a short-sleeved wetsuit (and a load of enthusiasm!). Many excursions will be supervised for everyone’s safety and you’ll be unable to dive until you can display the proper certification, but this will in no way detract from the beauty that you are sure to experience. From swimming with giant manta rays to getting an up-close-and-personal look at tropical fish, this activity should be top on your list.
Sailing free
Want to try something a little more adventurous than the average holiday-goer while also taking a bit of time for yourself? Free sailing is a great way to test your wits, coordination, and endurance. One interesting feature of many of the resorts here is that they offer free sailing lessons. If you already have the skills necessary, however, you can simply rent a boat and coast along the shores. There’s also a lagoon for those who are less experienced but nonetheless wish to experience the rush of sailing. Expect nothing less than a kaleidoscope of colors both above and below. Bring your tanning lotion and leave the jewelry with the sleeping husband; sailing can be quite challenging but lots of fun!
Dress code
You’ll need a variety of outfits and even a few different swimsuits depending on where you are. The rules are fairly loose when you’re on the resort, but dress codes become a bit more conservative once you venture into the public areas. A two-piece is fine while you’re on the beach, for instance, provided that it’s not overly revealing. But while you’re out and about around town, remember to cover your thighs and shoulders. This isn’t just a cultural norm; skimpy clothing can be a punishable offense, and topless sunbathing is an absolute no-no. Just stick to a somewhat modest wardrobe, nothing see-through or overtly sexy, and you should have no problems.
You can also feel free to walk around the islands themselves to appreciate the views that they offer. For all the ladies who desire a break from the hustle and bustle of the normal world, the Maldives are the best prescription. Although some will prefer to while away the hours on a sandy beach, the more adventurous types are sure to gravitate to the many aquatic activities here. If you’re planning a holiday in the near future, the Maldives are one place that should be at the top of your list.

I don’t know. I think Maldives is not really an adventure. I prefer Raja Ampat, Indonesia.
