Columbia Ravenous Trail Runners

| March 17, 2010 | 0 Comments

Columbia surprised Women’s Adventure testers with this light, comfortable trail runner—also one of the testing line-ups lowest price points.

The Ravenous offered good protection and cushioning via its dual use of a closed-cell foam it uses in most of its footwear—Techlite—as both the main component of the shock-absorbing midsole and as a structural element in the upper. Techlite is lightweight and flexible, so the shoe is beefier than it feels.

One drawback: some testers who prefer to “feel” the terrain thought the hefty sole, while offering lots of traction on muddy and wet trails, dampened the trail too much. The fit seemed right on, but the high heel cup can rub some runners the wrong way and the shoe is best suited for mid- to narrow-width feet.  $90; www.columbia.com
