The Latest Greatest Energy Bars
Why do we love food in bar form? It’s quick, energy-dense, and easy to pack. Here are some of the newest offerings on the market.
PROBAR Fuel
Chia seeds are the new kale. Dr. Oz is a big fan because they fill you up in fiber but they’re low in calories and fat. The new Fuel bar with chia seeds is packed with gluten-free superfruits like dates and blueberries to fill you up with out weighing you down. This baby is only 160 calories, but provides 4 grams of natural fiber. How’s it taste? Basically like a Lara Bar with more seeds.
Builder’s Max by Clif Bar
Did you just do the workout of lifetime and need to load up on protein, fat, and carbs fast? Yes? Try the Builder’s Max. It’s got 30 grams of protein, and, according to our test, the caramel peanut flavor tastes “like a sundae.” But be careful. The Builder’s Max has as many calories as two Luna Bars or one and half Snickers.
Nature Valley Soft-Baked Oatmeal Squares
If you’re like me, you have a soft spot in your heart for Nature Valley, the great grandma of granola bars (especially crunchy peanut butter). These oatmeal squares are great for camping or backpacking, low in fat (7 grams) and calories (160). However, the squares, that come in both peanut butter and brown sugar flavor, are not too high in fiber and protein. So, they make a better snack for a light hike than a marathon.
Enduro Bites
Enduro Bites are designed for endurance athletes who just need to fuel up during a race…unfortunately the fig and dark chocolate flavor tastes like that too. Each all-natural, gluten-free “bite” is 100 calories, making an entire bar a whopping 400 calories. Save this for that long-haul bike ride or run.
