Playtime Can Be Productive

“Your feet will bring you where your heart is.” This Irish proverb is probably referring to a romantic love, but we think your heart can be in love with a place or even a state of mind.

It’s possible to wander on a trail system without purpose and somehow windup at your favorite spot—whether a scenic overlook, a really still meadow, or even a waterfall—without having consciously chosen your course. And it’s possible that the physical wandering accompanies a kind of mental wandering that brings you to a place of personal clarity or inner peace.

We recently saw (and tweeted about) a scientific study that points to increased brain activity during movement. But I think people have known this for a long time: An active body means an active mind. And even those who aren’t that stoked about the idea of exercise can understand the appeal of a natural brain booster.

I know I at least can use every bit of creativity and wisdom that I can get. Plus, citing the new study supports my theory that playtime is productive time.
