Many travelers express frustration regarding what and how much to pack. This is entirely understandable. However, there should be less emphasis on what to bring, and more emphasis on being—fully and presently—at your destination.

After months of preparation for an overseas trip, I couldn’t bear the thought of losing my baggage. Entrusting my mountaineering boots to the airline gods? No way! So I carried everything on board. Here’s how you can pack for an expedition, and fit it all in the overhead stowage bin.
